The Importance of a 24 Hour Plumber

Having a reliable emergency plumber on call is one of the smartest decisions you can make as a property owner. A plumbing emergency left unattended overnight can quickly turn a manageable problem into a serious one. A burst pipe can flood a room within hours, causing structural water damage and mould growth. A failed hot water system in the middle of winter can’t wait until Monday morning, and a sewage backup is a health hazard that needs immediate attention. The good news is that having the right plumber’s number saved in your phone means you’re never left dealing with any of it alone. When you call Plumbwide Plumbing, you get a fast response any time of the day or night, from a licensed professional who will assess the situation, stop the damage, and get your home back to normal. With over 15 years of experience responding to emergency callouts across the Central Coast and Newcastle, the Plumbwide team knows exactly what to do when it matters most.

Plumbwide Plumbing FAQs

A plumbing emergency is any situation that poses an immediate risk to your property, health or safety and can’t safely wait until normal business hours. Burst pipes, major leaks, sewage backups, gas leaks and complete hot water failures are among the most common emergencies we respond to. If water is actively flooding your home or you can smell gas, treat it as an emergency and call immediately.

Some situations are less obvious but still urgent. A blocked drain that’s causing water to back up into your home, a toilet that won’t flush in a single-bathroom property, or a hot water failure in the middle of winter are all situations where waiting isn’t a realistic option. When in doubt, give us a call and we’ll help you assess the situation over the phone.

The rule of thumb is simple: if the problem is causing damage, creating a health risk, or making your home unsafe or unliveable, it’s an emergency. Plumbwide Plumbing is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week across the Central Coast and Newcastle, so you never have to make that call alone.

We aim to get to you as fast as possible, and because we’re a local team based right here on the Central Coast, we’re not dispatching from hours away. When you call, we’ll give you an honest arrival estimate straight away so you’re not left guessing. Our priority is always to minimise the time between your call and us being on site.

Response times can vary depending on time of day, location and how many jobs are active at the time of your call. We’ll always be upfront with you about how long we expect to take, and if there’s anything you can safely do in the meantime to reduce damage, we’ll walk you through it over the phone while you wait.

Being a family-run business means we genuinely care about the people we’re helping, not just the job itself. We know how stressful a plumbing emergency can be, especially in the middle of the night, and we treat every callout with the urgency it deserves. Our goal is to get there quickly, fix the problem properly and leave you with peace of mind.

Plumbwide Plumbing covers the full Central Coast region for emergency callouts, from Gosford and Wyong through to the surrounding suburbs and communities in between. Whether you’re in Terrigal, Tuggerah, Woy Woy, Toukley or anywhere across the region, we’re able to respond. We also service Newcastle and the surrounding areas, so if you’re just outside the Central Coast, it’s still worth giving us a call.

Being locally based means we know the area well, which helps us get to you faster and without the delays that come with a team travelling from further away. We’ve been servicing properties across this region for over 15 years, so we’re familiar with the local infrastructure, common issues and the fastest routes to get to where we’re needed.

If you’re unsure whether you’re within our service area, just call us on 0481 998 401 and we’ll let you know straight away. We’ll always do our best to help, and if for any reason we can’t get to you, we’ll do what we can to point you in the right direction.

Yes, Plumbwide Plumbing responds to emergency callouts across residential, commercial and strata properties. Whether you’re a homeowner, a business owner, a landlord with a tenant in crisis or a property manager dealing with an after-hours issue across a strata complex, we have the experience and licensing to help. No matter the property type, our response is the same: fast, professional and focused on getting the problem fixed.

For rental properties, we understand that coordinating access and communication between landlords, tenants and property managers adds an extra layer of complexity to an already stressful situation. We’re experienced in navigating that process and will work with whoever is on site to get the job done with minimum disruption. Tenants are always welcome to call us directly in an emergency.

For commercial and strata properties, we’re fully approved and carry all current licences and insurances required for that type of work. We know that a plumbing emergency in a business or strata setting can affect multiple people at once, and we treat those callouts with the urgency and professionalism they require.

After-hours and emergency callouts do carry a different rate to standard business hours work, and we will always be upfront about that before we come out. There are no hidden fees and no surprises when the invoice arrives. Before we start any work, we’ll explain the costs clearly so you can make an informed decision without any pressure.

We offer free, no-obligation quotes and believe in honest, transparent pricing. We know that calling a plumber in the middle of the night is already stressful enough without having to worry about what it’s going to cost. Our goal is to give you a clear picture of the situation and the pricing so you feel confident and in control from the moment you call.

While after-hours rates are higher than standard rates, the cost of not acting quickly in a genuine emergency is almost always greater. Water damage, structural issues and health hazards can all escalate rapidly when a plumbing emergency is left unattended. Getting the right help quickly is nearly always the most cost-effective decision in the long run.

The most important thing to do while you wait is to stop the flow of water if you safely can. Locating and turning off your main water shutoff valve will prevent further water from entering the affected area and limit the damage while we’re on our way. If you’re unsure where your shutoff valve is, we can help talk you through it over the phone.

Once the water is off, move valuables, furniture and electronics away from any affected areas if it’s safe to do so. If water is near any electrical outlets, switches or appliances, avoid that area entirely and switch off power at the circuit breaker if you can do so safely. Don’t attempt any repairs yourself, as this can sometimes make the situation worse or create additional hazards.

Try to stay calm and keep the affected area clear so we can get straight to work when we arrive. If you can, take a photo or short video of the problem as it may help us assess the situation before we get there. We’ll keep you informed of our arrival time and talk you through anything else that’s helpful while you wait.

In most cases, yes, it is safe to stay in your home during a plumbing emergency, as long as the situation doesn’t involve gas, significant structural risk or exposure to sewage. A burst pipe or blocked drain, while stressful and messy, doesn’t usually require you to leave your home. The priority is to stop the flow of water, stay away from any electrical hazards and wait for professional help to arrive.

There are situations where it may be safer to leave or at least avoid certain areas of the home. If you can smell gas, evacuate immediately, leave doors open as you go, and call us and your gas provider from outside. If sewage is backing up into living areas, limit exposure as much as possible, as sewage contains bacteria and pathogens that pose a genuine health risk.

If you’re ever unsure whether your situation is safe, call us and we’ll help you assess it over the phone. We’d rather you call and find out everything is fine than stay in an unsafe situation. Your safety always comes first, and we’ll give you honest, practical advice until we can get there in person.

Your main water shutoff valve is usually located where the water supply enters your home, which is often near the water meter, under the kitchen sink, or in a utility area like a laundry or garage. Turning this valve clockwise will stop the flow of water to the entire property and is the single most effective thing you can do to limit damage during a plumbing emergency.

If you’re dealing with a problem isolated to one fixture, such as a leaking toilet or tap, there may be a smaller isolation valve located directly behind or beneath that fixture. Turning that off will stop water to just that area without affecting the rest of the house. These are usually small valves that turn clockwise to close, the same as the main shutoff.

If you can’t locate your shutoff valve or it won’t turn, call us straight away and we’ll help you work through it over the phone. It’s a good idea to find your shutoff valve before an emergency happens so you’re not searching for it under pressure. If you’d like us to show you where it is during a service visit, just ask and we’re happy to help.
